Isla's Birthday Recap

Dear Diary, To recap the events of the past couple of days, we had two birthday "parties" for Isla.
The first was on Sunday with our church family. We really wanted to share her birthday with everyone as they have been so supportive and encouraging to us since we arrived. They are not a replacement for our family, they are our "Colorado" family!
Colin and I brought a cake, candles, balloons and other party gear along with us to church. After the morning service most people came downstairs to sing "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" and enjoy good fellowship and cake.

Colin made her cake

She didn't like wearing her birthday hat and wasn't really sure what was going on but despite not napping at all that morning, she was a good girl. Yesterday was her "real" birthday and it was mainly just the three of us for the day.

Although she looks excited to see her cake, I learned this weekend that my dear girl does not like cake!

What's all that about? I don't understand.

I thought any child of mine would've devoured a piece of cake in about 4 seconds flat, but no, Lady Black would rather eat Colin's omelette than her own birthday cake.

Lucky birthday girl!

As I mentioned in an earlier post, we bought her a wagon for her present. She loves it!

We were going to go outside this afternoon and take it for a spin to the mailbox but it was REALLY windy and cool so we'll save the maiden voyage for another day.

Opening another gift from Mommy and Daddy. She was a bit cranky due to lack of sleep (refusing to take afternoon naps despite being exhausted) so when she opened this gift and realized it made animal noises, she sobbed. It was just too much at that moment.

Amazingly enough, she had a nap later in the afternoon (a 2nd year change for the good?) and she was all smiles and now she can play with it without crying!!!

Daddy's favourite photograph of the day!

For dinner, "Uncle" Merlin and "Aunt" Janet Moore came over for dinner and she got spoiled again. It's funny, as soon as Isla sees Merlin, she's all smiles! Thanks folks, it was so kind of you to help share in Isla's special day.

On behalf of Isla "kiss-kiss", thank you very much for all your warm birthday wishes. We know that there are some cards and other things still en route here (some of which we are not suppose to know about, Matthew!) but thank you very much in advance. Despite her not knowing it was her birthday and what all the fuss was about, Colin and I know how much she is loved by so many people and family on her first birthday.

Thank you!

I am sentimental and I have a decorated box to treasure all her 1st birthday paraphanalia like birthday cards, bib and other things. I can't wait until she's old enough to have a good look at it all.
