Happy Canada Day (& other stuff)

Happy 143rd (belated) Birthday Canada!

You've aged well and I'm so glad we finally get to celebrate with you!

May you always remain glorious and free!

In other news, Colin is away again.  We dropped him off at the airport last evening and then proceeded to have a teary ride home.  We hope and pray we are nearing the end of the wait for the visa (with favourable outcome of course) and it can't come soon enough.  In the meantime, we are the three muskateers at home - Isla, Pearl and me.  Yes, just us three.

While Colin was home, our other furry girl, Dixie, went missing.  We haven't seen her for a week and a half and we miss her so much.   Each time we are outside we call for her and as we drive up and down the road, I'm always scanning the ditches and the corn field for any sign of her.  If you're not a cat person, keep your thougths to yourself - our cats are part of the family and we take their care very seriously.  She was part of our family which is a reason why I couldn't leave them in N. Ireland.   We haven't lost all hope but each day it's more likely we won't see her again and in the meantime we are praying she comes home.

Poor Pearl is left to receive all of Isla's affections:

BUT don't feel too sorry for Pearl, she's been keeping busy perfecting her hunting skills.
(Warning: disgusting pic below)

We're pretty sure this is the Mamma Mole - she's already brought home all the baby Moles...  I won't tell you what she did with it after this photo was taken but doesn't she look proud!!!  Good girl Pearl!

So yes, yesterday was Canada Day and Colin went back to Brazil.  We also brought Isla to the ER for her first visit.  Not bad for a 2.5 year old.   The story is goes like this....

On Wednesday night she was at my mom's and fell from the 2nd step onto tile.  She cried a bit (she's not a cry baby) but soon got over it after a few cuddles.  We didn't think anything of it until she woke up the next morning and her eye was a bit swollen.  We monitored it but it didn't seem to be bothering her.  After her nap, her eye was HUGE and since she woke up crying after 45 minutes we figured it was bothering her.  Of course this is when we paniced a bit and started thinking broken eye socket, blindness etc. so we decided to take her to the ER to get checked out. I will not take a chance with her eyesight and if we had to wait hours (dr's offices were closed due to Canada Day) sobeit.   We were in and out within 1.5 hours, not bad at all.  She is fine.   The swelling is worse after lying flat as she sleeps but for the next week or so she will be sporting a boxer's eye but no damage was done.

No, she's not winking, this is Isla eating her breakfast this morning.
Check out that eye, my poor baby!

She was very proud of her hospital ID bracelet though.  She loved it so I took it off and put it in her keepsake box as a momento of the first ER visit...

Sporting her new jewellery!
So beautiful even with a swollen eye...
